Rethinking resilience and low-carbon development
In studying climate resilient development, we are unpacking the relevant yet contentious notion of ‘resilience’. This term has no direct local translation, is often associated with disasters, and is frequently framed through Northern/Western narratives.
Understanding resilience from the ground
Based on interviews and group discussions - for the people of Tacloban and Guiuan, resilience is multi-dimensional. It is a combination of immediate survival tactics, strong community bonds, deep spiritual faith, proactive safety planning, and economic adaptability in the face of a changing climate
From insights to action
We used insights from the research interviews and engaged in a co-development process with local community members in Tacloban City to come up with five domains of Climate Resilient Development: (1) Living Well with Nature, (2) Livelihoods and Food Security, (3) Well-Being Peace and Security, (4) Good Relations and Community Solidarity, and (5) Local Knowledge and Community Preparedness.
